In October 1994, a hard-up father worried about the Child Support Agency was found dead at a well-known Sussex beauty spot. The inquest held on Clive Cass, an unemployed builder from near Hailsham, reported that he had been found floating in a pool along the Cuckoo Trail and a post mortem showed he had probably drowned.

His brother Colin said Clive had been worried about letters he had received from the Child Support Agency earlier in the year. He had been divorced for 15 years and left a daughter.
